Job description:

The Biomedical Genomics Group (http://bg.upf.edu) is settled in the Research Unit on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) (http://grib.imim.es), a joint unit of the IMIM-Hospital del Mar and the University Pompeu Fabra, which is located at the PRBB, Barcelona. The main line of research in our group is the integration of genomic data for the study of genetic diseases, including hereditary diseases and cancer.
This position is immediately available for enthusiastic and highly motivated people wanting to be part of Biomedical Genomics Group and work in a multidisciplinary project related to personalized medicine.


Tasks:
Development of an analysis management system with web application  and web services front-end

Implementation of genomic analysis workflows (pipelines) using a mixture of technologies like R, Hadoop, Java and so on

Integration of existing pipelines for next generation sequencing into the analysis management system.

Documentation and communication of the work developed


Qualifications and experience:
It is required:

  • 2 years of experience in software development and/or bioinformatics projects
  • Knowledge of Java, R, Python, JavaScript programming languages
  • Basic software engineering skills and practices (UML, patterns, project management tools, version control, bug management)
  • English skills for comunication

It will be also valued:

  • Hadoop related technologies knowledge or experience
  • Next generation sequencing data processing experience
  • Massive data processing experience (specially if it's biological/genomic data)
  • Amazon EC2, S3 knowledge
  • Basic knowledge on web applications
  • Linux knowledge as a user/administrator

Contract:

Full-time position, available on a fixed-term basis for two years with the
possibility of extension. Competitive salary according to profile and previous
 experience.
