ERASysBio Data Management Summer School ~ 26th - 30th July 2009, Universidad de Verano de Adeje, Tenerife, Spain
The European Research Area for Systems Biology (ERASysBio) is a transnational funding initiative that brings together 16 ministries and funding agencies from 13 countries in the European Research Area (ERA) to coordinate their national research programmes and agree on a common European agenda. One of the actions of ERASysBio's agreed agenda is to encourage the adoption of data standards, data management and sharing best practices across the ERA. In this second edition, they aim to bridge the gap between experimentalists and modellers, giving modellers experience in experimental data interpretation and experimentalists experience in constructing and testing models from data. As for the first edition, the training sessions will be mainly led by Katy Wolstencroft (University of Manchester) and Olga Krebs (University of Heidelberg), with input from other experts. They would like to invite 2-3 postdoctoral researchers from each ERASysBio partner country to attend the summer school. Registration is now open. Please complete this document and send it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . At the time of registration they will ask for proof that participants are currently working on a project in systems biology and you will also have to provide the name and contact details of your supervisor in order to ensure that you have been granted permission to attend. The closing date for registration of interest is 16th June 2009 17:00 CET. All registrations of interest will be carefully considered and the outcomes will be communicated by the end of June. Further details concerning the summer school are listed below: Aims to achieve effective communication between all participants; to raise awareness of the urgent need to adopt data standards, data management and sharing best practices in the ERA; to provide knowledge on the current tools, methods, practices, models, challenges and solutions in the management of data in systems biology; to equip participants with tools for decision-making.Target audience - postdoctoral researchers from academic institutions in ERASysBio partner countries;- experimentalists and modellers currently working in a systems biology project. Please note that PhD students and Senior Researchers, i.e. lecturers, equivalent and higher grades, are not eligible to this summer school. Please note that registration will operate on a 'first come, first serve' basis and that there is a very limited quota per participant country. Participants are therefore urged to register as soon as possible. At the time of registration all participants will have to provide proof that they are currently working on a project in systems biology. See registration for details. Location The summer school will take place at the University of La Laguna Summer Campus (http://www.adeje.es/esp/portada_universidad_de_verano.asp), situated in Adeje, on the south-west coast of the island of Tenerife, only 10km away from Reina Sofia International Airport. The University of La Laguna is the oldest university in the Canary Islands, with its origin dating back to 1701 when Augustine monks established a centre for higher learning in the city of La Laguna. In 1992 the summer campus was founded in Adeje to promote culture, research, politics and philosophy among other disciplines, on the island.Cost Attending the summer school is free of charge. Accommodation, all specified meals and tea and coffee breaks are included. Transport from and to Reina Sofia International Airport on the dates of arrival and departure, and transport between the summer campus and nearby accommodation will be provided. Participants will be required to cover all the costs of standard return air travel from their home institutions to Reina Sofia International Airport. Once you have been notified that your application has been successful, please book your flight promptly as it is high season and the demand is high.Visas for travel On request, ERASysBio will provide a letter confirming their attendance at the summer school to those participants requiring a visa to travel to Tenerife. The costs associated to requesting visas are not covered by this summer school.Registration Registration is now open. Registration will operate on a 'first come, first serve' basis and therefore participants are urged to register their interest as soon as possible. Please note that if fewer than 2-3 participants from any given country register, we will allocate the remaining spaces to countries where there is a high demand for spaces.Selection Process All expressions of interests received via e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
